Course Description

PCB design, or Printed Circuit Board design, is the process of arranging and connecting electronic components on a non-conductive board. This involves converting a circuit diagram into a physical layout that strategically positions components and links them with conductive traces. PCB designers utilise specialised software to arrange components, route connections, and ensure that the design adheres to both electrical and mechanical specifications. The resulting files, usually in Gerber format, are then used for manufacturing, creating functional PCBs that power electronic devices across multiple industries.

What you will learn

  • img

Extensive expertise in both the hardware and software aspects of PCB design.

  • img

Developing and understanding schematic diagrams that illustrate the electrical connections and relationships between components.

  • img

Designing and optimising the physical layout of components on the PCB, taking into account factors such as size limitations, signal integrity, and thermal management.

  • img

Generating detailed design documentation, including Gerber files, bill of materials (BOM), assembly drawings, and ensuring compliance with industry standards and regulations.
